The Disciplinarian mother: Bà Hai (the strict, traditional family matriarch) – played by veteran actress Uyên Trinh F/F daughter Loan / Cô Út (the youngest, naive daughter) – played by actress Diệp Bảo Ngọc, striking with a feather duster stick on her bottom, position of lying on a large bed, in front of witnesses, tears. After each stroke, the punished daughter reaches back to hold her sore butt.

In traditional Vietnamese and East Asian households, the bamboo/rattan handle of a rooster feather duster is a classic household implement used for corporal punishment and disciplining disobedient children.

Loan had previously defied her mother's authority by running away and pursuing a romance with a dishonorable man named Hiệp.

Hiệp secretly took intimate photos of Loan while she was unconscious with a severe fever. He sends her an extortion letter demanding 2,000,000 VND. Otherwise, he threatens to post the photos across her university campus and throughout her rural home village.

Having failed to borrow money from her relatives, Loan returns home in tears. Seeing her back, Bà Hai explodes in fury—not only for Loan's prior disobedience, but because her scandalous behavior threatens to bring irrevocable shame to the entire family name.

While the mother is drowned in tears over the family tragedy and Dịu comforts the weeping Loan, Mỹ standing next to them in that room with a sinister smirk, relishing Loan's downfall.
