Den sidste viking aka The Last Viking

These scenes are from the film called Den sidste viking aka The Last Viking (Denmark, Sweden 2025)

1. Father (Far) played by Lars Ranthe. The strict patriarch of the family who administers the corporal punishments M/mm sons, Anker: the older brother (as a child) played by Alfred Røssel Læsø and younger Manfred (as a child) played by Joel Hesse Johansen, thrashing with a rod, position of bent over, in the presence of their mother and sister, in a shed.

The younger brother Manfred who suffers from mental instability and carves runes. Through fragmented childhood flashbacks, the film uncovers the deep-rooted family trauma. The Father responds to Manfred's mental health issues and the resulting social shame by inflicting harsh physical punishments on both of his sons.

The Father blames the older brother, Anker, for failing his one job to protect Manfred from becoming a laughingstock at school. At the same time, she also punishes Manfred himself so that he doesn't grow up to be a weakling and a loser.

2. The same dad M/m son Anker, beating probably with a rod again, unknown position, off-screen. There are just heard sounds of the corporal punishment.

The trigger for this event is the father looking through old photos from Manfred's school years. He discovers a picture of Manfred wearing a homemade Viking helmet that resembles devil horns. Furious at the public embarrassment, the father decides to severely punish Anker for failing his duties as the older brother.

Both scenes are flashbacks to the brothers' childhood.

These severe corporal punishments shape the tragic adult lives of both brothers. For Manfred, the father's behavior triggers a severe mental breakdown and dissociative identity disorder (manifesting in his adult delusions of being a Viking or John Lennon). For Anker,  father's behavior breeds deep emotional detachment and pushes him toward a life of crime.
