In his private observatory, an elderly astronomer is busy studying star charts. Unbeknownst to him, his mischievous son climbs up to the level of the telescope aperture and places a black cat right inside the telescope’s aperture.

When the astronomer peers through the eyepiece, he is astonished to see the silhouette of a cat against the glowing face of the Moon. Convinced that he has just made a groundbreaking scientific discovery, the ecstatic scholar puts on his formal coat and top hat and rushes out to summon his academic colleagues.

Seeing that his father has left, the cunning boy prepares an even bolder trick. When the astronomer returns with a delegation of dignified scholars in powdered wigs, the first colleague excitedly looks into the telescope and still sees the cat. However, moments later, the boy replaces the animal with his own face—pulling funny grimaces, sticking out his tongue, and thumbing his nose directly into the lens.

Insulted and convinced that the astronomer is either playing a distasteful practical joke or has lost his mind, the outraged colleagues indignantly storm out. Puzzled and distressed, the astronomer looks into the telescope himself and finally catches on.

He approaches to him, catches his son red-handed at the end of the telescope, and promptly disciplines the young prankster with a sound spanking.
