Dominion, Season 1., Episode 1. Pilot

Alex sneaked outside the walls of Vega in a vehicle without authorization, directly violating the founding laws of the city (gates are inviolable). Under normal circumstances, this offense warrants a severe sentence: being purged down to V-0 (becoming an untouchable outcast).

However, because Alex belongs to the elite Archangel Corps under Michael's command, he is spared expulsion from society. Instead, Michael personally administers a harsh corporal punishment to discipline him and enforce obedience.

The beating is halted when General Edward Riesen emerge from a hallway, declaring, "I think that's enough, Michael. He's learned his lesson." Riesen orders Alex to maintain total silence regarding the angels he witnessed outside the walls and dismisses him back to duty.

Once Alex departs, Riesen and Michael exchange words regarding the young soldier. Michael insists Alex is reckless and desperately lacks discipline, while Riesen defends him, noting that he owes Alex after he previously saved his daughter Claire's life.

The scene concludes on a chilling note as Michael warns that the angels reached right up to the gate, signaling that the war has reignited.
