Facing resistance from the youth, the city elders decide on a lenient, symbolic resolution to avoid a full-scale riot. Instead of a harsh hitting, each person receives a light, symbolic tap with the twigs. 

3. Another town bailiff M/M Zsigmond Bibók, previously acted as a spy and double agent, 30 blows with a stick on his ass, position of lying on a wooden bench, in front of witnesses. After the flogging, the punished man holds his sore bottom in front of the onlookers, who laugh at him. 

Zsigmond Bibók was sentenced to 30 strokes on a wooden bench as a disciplinary punishment for his previous espionage, untrustworthiness, and betrayal. 

The man standing nearby who is loudly counting the strokes is a town official or a court clerk / scribe.

His official role during public punishments was to oversee the execution, ensure that the executioner delivered the exact number of strikes ordered by the court, and count them out loud for the records and the gathered crowd. 

The story takes place in Lőcse (historically known as Leutschau in German, or Levoča in present-day Slovakia) and is set around the early 18th century.
