Tom Brown's Schooldays, Episode 5.

 These are from the BBC TV Mini Series called Tom Brown's Schooldays, Episode 5. (United Kingdom 1973) 1. Both boys are punished for their roles in a conspiracy against Tom Brown. Flashman (the notorious school bully) devised a malicious scheme in which he and Coates, with the help of the gamekeeper Cully Redman, falsely accused Tom Brown of poaching. They rigged the evidence so that Tom was wrongly flogged and disgraced by the headmaster.

Coates receives a public caning but is not expelled. Dr. Arnold shows some mercy because Coates was under Flashman’s bad influence and still has a chance to reform.

Flashman receives a much harsher public punishment. Dr. Arnold denounces him in front of the whole school as a blaggard, a bully, a coward and the mirror of depravity itself. He declares that Flashman is the corrupt son of a corrupt father and a foul stain on the long record of the Rugby School. Flashman is then publicly caned and expelled with ignominy.
