Father's Son

 Those are from the movie called Father's Son (USA 1941) A shorter clip of these two scenes was originally published here in July 2024. English subtitles have now been included for those who have trouble understanding spoken English, and both scenes are featured in higher quality and longer versions, with added context regarding the motives for the disciplinary actions. At the time of the original post, we did not have access to the full film. However, the complete movie is now available on YouTube for those who wish to view it in full.

1. Daddy M/m son Bill, one one swat with his hand on the backside, position of standing, in front of his mum. He is holding him with the other hand. He is ousting him to his own yard. 

His father had explicitly ordered Bill to stay in your own yard. Bill left the yard to fight with neighbor boy Junior over stolen bird eggs. Bill catches Junior stealing eggs from a nest that hangs over their property.

A neighbor (Junior’s mother) scolds Bill for molesting other people’s children.

The dad arrives and immediately focuses on the fact that Bill ignored his earlier order, not on the fight itself. Bill is sent to his room and grounded for the rest of the week. 

His mother actually defends Bill, saying she is glad he had the spunk to fight a bigger boy.

2. Mom F/m son Bill, spanking probably with her hand, unknown position, in the presence of his father and Lunk Nelson – a Swedish fish peddler, off-screen. They are only heard sounds of the corporal punishment. She teaches him his lesson. In this case, the father is against the disciplinary spanking, while Lunk Nelson approves of it. 

Bill faked his own kidnapping by writing a ransom note (“If you want him back, bring five grand…”) to force his separated parents to reunite. He openly admits: “I had to do something to get them together. And it worked!”

The parents have been living apart and both are miserable.

Bill’s prank terrifies them. They bring $5,000 ransom money to a remote cabin at night.

When the truth comes out, the mother is angry: “You little devil! … Driving your father and me almost crazy, worrying us to death!”
