Desperate to save her father from a death sentence for a murder he didn't commit, Chun-chun bribed a poor family (the Ding family) to testify that they saw a different man commit the crime.

The antagonist, Fang Tang-geng, exposed the lie. He questioned the Dings' young daughter, who accidentally revealed they weren't even home during the time of the murder. Under pressure, the father of the family confessed that Chun-chun had paid them and coached them on what to say.
