After the belt punishment, Artur intends to give her a 'pleasant evening,' but she is completely devastated by it all. She tells him on their sit-down she would rather stand than sit, as her bum is still very sore from the belting.

A little later she attacked him with a fork during the uncomfortable gathering they were attending together. That’s why he later chained her up in the basement. When he eventually came to her holding a knife, she thought he was going to kill her. She desperately begged him not to kill her and, in the process, even suggested that he beat her again with his belt. She wanted to hand him the belt herself. But in the end, out of all the options, he chose to have sex with her.

In the first sequence, the protagonist, Tanya (played by Agata Muceniece), faces the reality of her captivity. After a failed escape attempt where she bypasses the basement's magnetic lock using a metal electrode, she is confronted by Artur.

Artur does not view himself as a common criminal, but rather as a mentor or purifier. He perceives Tanya’s attempt to escape not as a natural drive for freedom, but as an act of lying and disobedience. As a result, he decides to teach her a lesson through a severe disciplinary belt spanking on her bare buttocks. This scene is pivotal as it marks the transition from psychological manipulation to overt physical dominance. 

Artur suffers from a deep-seated messiah complex. He believes that modern women are spoiled and corrupt, and he sees his basement as a place of forced reformation. He uses corporal punishment to break the victim’s will, treating them like disobedient children rather than adults. 

The film reveals a grim truth: Tanya is not the first. The presence of a previous, deceased victim in the basement serves as a haunting warning. Artur’s "re-education" process has a zero-tolerance policy for failure. If a woman cannot be broken or reformed to his impossible standards, she becomes disposable. The dead woman represents the ultimate fate for those who fail to adapt to Artur’s twisted world.
