Tom Sawyer aka Adventures of Tom Sawyer
The scene is from the television movie called Tom Sawyer aka Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Canada, USA 1973) It's the film directed by James Neilson. Back in 1973, two versions of Tom Sawyer came out. The much more well-known and longer one is the musical film directed by Don Taylor, scenes of which were already posted here on the blog.
Aunt Polly F/m Tom, spanking with a shoe, position of bent across her knees. The boy who stands outside and gleefully listening to Aunt Polly giving Tom a spanking, is his half-brother Sid.
The spanking from Aunt Polly in this scene is given because Tom ran away from home and let everyone believe he was dead.
Tom, Huck, and Joe Harper ran away to an island where they played pirates for several days. The whole town including Aunt Polly believed the boys had drowned. They even held a funeral service for them in the church, where Aunt Polly, Mary, and the others were grieving deeply. Then Tom and Huck dramatically reappeared alive right in the middle of the church service that Aunt Polly had arranged in their memory.
Aunt Polly is, of course, overjoyed and thankful to God that Tom is alive but at the same time she punishes him because he caused her enormous pain, fear, and heartbreak.
