As a result, the boy involved was struck with a switch for this lapse in judgment. However, his female friend stepped forward, insisting that she receive the same punishment because the entire plan had been her idea. The man in charge of the punishment decided to show her mercy and he did not administer that corporal punishment to her.

At the beginning of the video, a man is seen taking a bundle of birch switches out of a bucket of water. The birch switches had been soaked there, and then he placed them into another bucket of water. The point is that in the past in Russia, corporal punishment was often administered by soaking birch switches in water (often salt water) before the physical punishment began, so that the strokes on the bare buttocks would sting and hurt more. This method of punitive beating on the bare bottom is documented in Russian historical sources.
