Prison Me? No Way!
It is from an educational film with dramatized elements called Prison Me? No Way! (Singapore 1998) Prison flogger M/M teen sentenced, two brutal strokes of a cane on his bare posterior, position of bend over, partially off-screen. After the court-ordered caning, he has trouble walking due to the piercing pain in his buttocks. Back in his prison cell, he lies on his stomach. The prisoner in Reformative Training Centre received the imprisonment and the caning punishment are for stabbing another young guy with a knife.
There is a pause (about 4–5 seconds) between first stroke and the second one, which is typical for judicial caning in Singapore – the strokes are not delivered rapidly one after another, but with sufficient interval so that each one has its full effect. Before the punishment, the offender is checked, which is standard procedure before caning to rule out any medical risks. A rattan cane with a maximum diameter of 1.27 cm is used. Scars often remain permanent.
This is the short film commissioned by Singapore's National Crime Prevention Council to deter teenagers from crime. The video, released in 1998 and filmed in Changi Prison and Changi Reformative Training Centre, shows life in prison from the perspectives of two young offenders and includes a reenactment of a judicial caning.
