花木蘭 aka Hua Mulan, Episode 3.

 This is from the TV Series called 花木蘭 aka Hua Mulan, Episode 3. (Taiwan 1999) - This is the improved, updated version of that scene, which was already posted here once in 2022. Soldier M/F Mulan disguised as the male soldier Hua Jun, beating with a club on her bum, position of bend over, in the presence of several soldiers, mostly off-screen. Two soldiers are holding her. Afterwards she cannot sit down on her aching backside. One of the soldier is trying to treat her bottom but she does not agree to it. 

Mulan (disguised as the male soldier “Hua Jun”) is working in the army kitchen together with a group of other low-ranking soldiers. Some food is sent to the officers’ table that is not properly prepared/salted. The strict deputy commander Li (the officer who hates Hua Jun) wants to punish the entire kitchen team with 100 heavy strokes of the club each. Mulan steps forward and takes full responsibility, sole responsibility, claiming that she alone was in charge of checking every dish before it left the kitchen. She does this to protect her new comrades, who have started to treat her as a friend. The angry deputy commander Li sees this as arrogance and an attempt to play the hero. He originally planned “only” 100 strokes, but because Mulan publicly contradicts him and accepts all blame, he increases the punishment dramatically: 300 heavy strokes with the club (instead of 100). Later adds another 50 strokes because Mulan glares at him and he interprets it as a personal challenge. He also declares that every further insolent word will add 10 more strokes. The punishment is carried out immediately. At this moment absolutely everyone in the camp, the deputy commander, the soldiers who carry out the beating, and all the kitchen comrades who later try to help her, believes that Hua Jun is a young man. That is why, after the punishment, the other soldiers admiringly call her big brother, carry her back to the barracks, and without any embarrassment try to pull down her trousers to apply medicinal ointment to her badly bruised buttocks. They have no idea they are dealing with a woman; they simply see a brave comrade who took a brutal beating to save the rest of them.
